The Story of Back of the Yards México
From Chicago to Guadalajara. A story that keeps growing.
Back of the Yards was born on the South Side of Chicago, in a neighborhood built by generations of immigrants, workers, and families who made community out of their own roots.
In 2016, that story took a new shape: specialty coffee made for the community and from the community. Coffee that doesn't set out to feel distant or exclusive, but to show that good coffee belongs to the neighborhoods, the people, and the places that make them singular.

Guadalajara
My story began here
Today, Back of the Yards México is opening in Guadalajara, inside Mercado San Juan de Dios, a place full of movement, history, and community. Here we found something that reminds us of home in Chicago: hardworking neighbors, proud of their roots, with plenty of stories to tell.
But our connection to Guadalajara runs deeper than a simple expansion.
Although the story of Back of the Yards Coffee began on the South Side of Chicago, my story began here. San Juan de Dios is where my parents met, where our family story started, and where part of my family still works and makes a life. Coming back here with Back of the Yards doesn't feel like arriving somewhere new. It feels like returning to a part of our heart.
We did not come to change what makes this place special. We came to be part of it.

We want to bring specialty coffee closer to the community and make it part of everyday life: good coffee, close to home, without the fuss.
SEED Model
Coffee with purpose
The way we do things is guided by our SEED model: four principles present in every cup. Social impact, economic development, environmental responsibility, and direct relationships.
Our story began in Chicago, but today it has a new chapter.
We are here, in Guadalajara
“Los mexicanos nacemos donde nos da la chingada gana.”
